Encouraging your child to read for pleasure

 

Reading for Pleasure improves the likelihood of academic success later in life. It is good for well-being and happiness. The huge range of children's books offers endless opportunities for children to imagine, explore, relax, go on adventures, empathise and learn. Being part of your child's reading journey is an important way to encourage them to read for pleasure independently. On this page you will find tips and ideas about how to get your child reading. 

  • Summer Reading Challenge The Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to get your child engaged with reading. Normally, it is run by Cardiff Libraries but this year it has gone online and has started early. Children can get recommendations, record their reading and get virtual rewards.   • Looking for books your child might enjoy? Browse our Reading Recommendations page for ideas and suggestions for children of different ages. Look at the lists with your child and find out what they like reading.
